GAHI has promoted higher standards for professional home inspectors since its inception in 1989. Since the State of Georgia does not license home inspectors, GAHI’s membership requirements, the most stringent in the country, fill this void. The organization requires all members to be certified in the One & Two Family Code (IRC / CABO), carry the appropriate level of insurance and posses a business license. Not only does this better equip the home inspector to conduct new construction inspections, but it also sharpens skills for inspecting existing homes.
GAHI promotes a multitude of educational opportunities to its members and to the public. These include monthly meetings with speakers from manufacturers of construction products, service experts, and engineers (some of who are GAHI members). In addition, GAHI member inspectors receive focused training to stay up-to-date with building code changes and topics of specific concern to homebuyers. GAHI members also form study groups that regularly meet in various locations to provide a forum for the exchange of ideas and problem solving in various areas that confront the home inspector. Many of the study group members have also used the groups to become skilled in some of the other mandatory codes (such as Mechanical, Plumbing, & Electrical) with the intent of acquiring additional code certification. A GAHI inspector is always learning!
GAHI has its own educational facility located off the Delk Road exit of I-75 in Marietta, Georgia. The classroom provides ample space conducive for an effective learning environment. With hotels and restaurants in close proximity, the location is convenient for those from outside the greater Atlanta area seeking to enroll in our classes.
3 primary goals of GAHI:
- Enhance the public awareness of the benefits of home inspections.
- Improve the inspection skills and the professional knowledge of each member.
- Provide a forum for the exchange of ideas and information
