GAHI Membership
The requirements, responsibilities and privileges of GAHI Membership are defined below.
Categories of Membership
Applicant:
Applicant refers to one who has submitted an application for Membership and paid the application fee to start the process for Membership.
- Completed an Application for GAHI Membership that has been accepted by the Membership Committee including payment of any dues.
- Has agreed to abide by the GAHI Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics and has submitted an affidavit to GAHI acknowledging such agreement.
NOTE: Applicant is NOT a level of GAHI membership. The Applicant may not state or advertise he/she is a GAHI member and will not be listed in membership directories until approved for a level of membership listed below.
GAHI Trained Inspector :
Persons meeting the following requirements shall be considered GAHI Trained Inspectors upon acceptance and recommendation by the Membership Committee and approval of the Board:
- Be currently certified by the International Code Council (ICC) as a Residential Combination Inspector (RCI).
- Has completed no less than 80 hours of training in home inspection methods and or residential building codes or has not less than two consecutive years of verifiable experience working in building trades or other related technical experience.
- Has passed the GAHI "Orientation" (Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics) examinations or has passed the National Home Inspectors Examination (NHIE) and the GAHI Code of Ethics examination.
- Has agreed to abide by the GAHI SOP and Code of Ethics.
- Has a current business license.
- Has current general liability insurance with a minimum of $500,000 in coverage.
- Has submitted two of his/her first five (5) inspection reports of his/her own choice to the Membership Committee for review for conformity to the GAHI SOP by the Membership Committee and three (3) inspection reports of his/her first twenty-five (25) which were randomly selected from a list submitted to the Membership Committee reviewed for conformity to the GAHI SOP by the Membership Committee. If the Applicant’s reports are not found to be in conformity after review of his/her first five (5) submitted reports, Applicant shall work with the Membership Committee to be in conformity by submission of additional reports as designated by the Membership Committee until conformity with the SOP is reached. Applicant is expected to be in conformity by his/her fifty-first inspection and if Applicant is not in compliance by the fifty-first inspection such applicant is subject to rejection of his/her annual renewal application.
GAHI Qualified Inspector :
Persons meeting the following requirements shall be considered GAHI Qualified Inspectors upon acceptance and recommendation by the Membership Committee and approval of the Board:
- Have met all requirements to become a GAHI Trained Inspector.
- Have successfully completed one hundred and twenty-five (125) fee paid residential inspections and submitted list of same to the Membership Committee for review and approval.
GAHI Certified Inspector:
Persons meeting the following requirements shall be considered GAHI Certified Inspectors upon acceptance and recommendation by the Membership Committee and approval of the Board:
- Have met all requirements to become a GAHI Qualified Inspector.
- Have successfully completed two hundred and fifty (250) fee paid residential inspections and submitted list of same to the Membership Committee for review and approval.
Affiliate:
An Affiliate is any person, company or organization that is not primarily engaged in the business of inspecting residential structures that would present an opportunity for mutual benefit by way of a relationship with GAHI and active participation in GAHI meetings, continuing education, seminars and other activities of the organization. Persons, companies or organizations meeting the following qualifications shall be considered Affiliates upon acceptance and recommendation by the Membership Committee and approval of the Board:
- Completed an Application for Affiliation that has been accepted by the Membership Committee including payment of any dues.
- Agreement to conduct themselves in an upright and ethical manner.
Honorary:
A former member that has ceased to perform inspections and requested to be listed only by name without contact information. Honorary membership can be awarded by the GAHI Officers or Board of Directors.
Membership Term: All terms of Membership and those of Applicant and Affiliate relationships are for one year, to begin on January 1st of each year and expire on December 31st of the same year.
